Information about the services we offer to residents, visitors, businesses and the younger generation of Darlington.
Employing 4500 people and with an annual budget of nearly ₤100 million the Council provides a broad range of services that touch the lives of all who live and work in the Borough. The Council is Labour controlled and it operates with a Cabinet and Leader system. Since becoming a unitary authority in 1997 the Council has been awarded Beacon Status for its Community Legal Service, won a Charter Mark for its Leisure Services and has outshone its regional neighbours in the Government's Education League tables. Further successes with town centre CCTV, groundbreaking children's services and community safety initiatives have already earned the Council a reputation for innovation and imaginative use of resources.
